Understanding Dementia – Glastonbury Library

This presentation provides an overview of dementia and how it is different from normal aging. We will discuss the different forms of dementia, common symptoms that accompany memory loss, and communication techniques for real-world situations. We will provide specific ideas to help caregivers build both empathy and understanding of dementia and provide practical tools for use when communicating with or assisting individuals with memory loss.
Liz Cornish is a physical therapist and Certified Dementia Care Specialist with more than 30 years’ experience working in senior living communities throughout Connecticut. She continues to work as a homecare physical therapist in the Farmington Valley. Liz’s extensive experience and knowledge of area resources make her an invaluable asset for seniors and their families looking for guidance in obtaining the best care as they age. She understands the numerous and varied challenges that arise when seniors need help during the aging process.
